A Different Perspective
June 7, 2022
In Concord, the voice of business resonates. Our state’s leaders recognize and value the impact of businesses – from job creation to economic growth. We know that in the coming months, many of the pillars of sustainability we hold dear – environment, workplace practices, and strong communities – will be under attack. Now more than ever, sustainable, socially responsible businesses need to actively tune in and engage with the legislative process.
Advocacy is an investment that yields significant returns. Just as we invest in our internal operations, we also need to invest to develop good policies for our people and our businesses. So, together, let’s connect with our leaders to continue to improve this amazing state, knowing that our businesses will thrive when our people and our communities thrive.
Despite the recent backlash against climate action, DEI initiatives, and ESG reporting, it’s crucial to remind legislators of the fundamental reasons for their rise. As you know, these efforts gained traction because they directly benefit businesses. Your stories help remind leaders in Concord that building a business model that reduces risk and fosters workplace belonging makes your business successful and our economy grow. Especially in a community where our future workforce is getting a great public education that builds their chances to thrive.
NHBSR, with the support of Preti Strategies, will be providing the resources you need to raise your voice in the way you are most comfortable. Our Advocacy Committee has suggested Quick Action Alert Meetings and legislative fact sheets that will provide you with a bill’s background, potential impacts, and resource links so that you have the facts as you encourage action within your organization or reach out to legislators. Preti will also provide individual coaching, lunch and learns on advocacy topics, and organize meetings with legislators in the New Year.
Your voice has made a difference many times in the past, so we are expanding our Advocacy work in strong public education. We also want to hear where your priorities lie, whether personally or professionally. Please take a few moments before the holidays to share your interest in this survey. Your response is valuable to us!
We won’t forget the power of our voices raised in unison. As we learn more about 2025 legislation, we will determine where sign-on letters and joint Op-Eds might provide more traction. As always, we will focus on the business case for or against an issue because that approach garners attention.
Remember, we’d love to hear from you via our survey!
Together, we can make a real difference for New Hampshire.
