Monadnock Paper Mills Receive NH's Governor's Award

BENNINGTON, NEW HAMPSHIRE (November 8, 2006) –Monadnock Paper Mills, Inc., manufacturer of technical specialty and premium printing and packaging papers, has received the New Hampshire Governor’s Award for Pollution Prevention. Alice Chamberlain, Policy Advisor to the Governor of New Hampshire, presented the award to Richard Verney, Chairman and CEO, in recognition of the company’s outstanding environmental accomplishments. Tom Burack, Commissioner of Environmental Services was also present at the award ceremony. Established in 1994, this award recognizes New Hampshire businesses and organizations that have successfully reduced or eliminated wastes at the source. Pollution prevention (P2) means the use of materials, processes, or practices that reduce or eliminate the creating of pollutants or waste at the source, or minimizes the transfer of pollutants or wastes from one medium, such as air, water or land, to another. Monadnock was chosen for this honor in great part for recycling programs that have reduced the amount of trash going to landfills by over 80 percent. Other initiatives include reduced energy consumption through process changes saving 88,254 kilowatt-hours of energy to date and decreased sewer losses through equipment modifications, which prevented 58,638 pounds of fiber and fillers from entering the waste stream.
